The Traditional of WIKING models

1999
WIKING model legends to mark the turn of the century

The Nuremberg Toy Fair was a very special event for WIKING. After all, the model-maker from Berlin was one of its first ever exhibitors. Back in 1949, Friedrich Karl Peltzer realized the opportunity to be had and travelled to Nuremberg to present his products to the experts. Five decades later, WIKING is one of the leading names at the toy fair. Since 1998, WIKING products have been displayed together with SIKU models on a permanent stand in the new hall 12 - ideal general conditions. Visitors to the 1999 fair were flabbergasted: WIKING presented the smallest Beetle in the world just in time for the turn of the century - this time 160 times smaller and with turning axles! In addition, the model-maker from Berlin presented numerous other innovations at the 1999 Nuremberg Toy Fair. These newcomers included the Mercedes Benz Atego, the Messerschmitt bubble car KR 201, the Jaguar MK II and the Karmann Ghia. We also saw the launch of a series of remarkable Bundeswehr wheel carriages from past decades. WIKING produced another sensation for model enthusiasts to mark the turn of the century: 1999 saw the emergence of new editions of “large-scale” historic agricultural models starting with the Normag Factor I. Another surprise from the Berlin model-maker at the turn of the century was the series "Model Legends 2000". This contained real WIKING classics including the Opel Kapitän '59 (formerly: 11), the DKW Special (formerly: 12s), the Porsche 356 Cabriolet (formerly: 16), the Borgward Arabella (formerly: 18) and the Mercedes Benz 280S (formerly: 154).

1998
Beetlemania reaches Germany

The Beetle, one of the first WIKING models of the post-war years which later disappeared from the range, suddenly regains its popularity. The new Beetle - with the same classic lines as the original Beetle - causes a sensation. WIKING produces the model in the scale of 1:87. For the first time, WIKING makes 1:160 scale movable axles. The wheels start turning on both the Audi A6, the VW Passat variation and the Mercedes Benz E 230 as well as the Fendt Favorit tractor and trailer. WIKING pays tribute to the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Berlin airlift by bringing out two models - a BVG double-decker bus and a new edition of the Willys jeep.

1996
The Mercedes Benz Actros awakes visions

The presentation of the Mercedes Benz Actros at IAA 1996 awakes visions of models from the next millennium. The Actros is impressive because of the filigree work which is better than ever - the proverbial love of detail which WIKING is so famous for reaches new heights. From now on, Wiking adds new generations of vehicles every year which mark new milestones and reflect developments in the automotive market. The end of the year is celebrated by bringing out a new model for Christmas. It is the Mercedes Benz 220 S.
